In September 2015 Refugee Aid Côte d’Azur, a local Facebook group, was created with the aim of providing aid to refugees. In collaboration with a local School, les Trois Collines, a request went out to parents of both schools for winter clothing and other essential items which would help alleviate the deplorable conditions which the refugees face during the coming winter. No-one could have forecast the response to this appeal. For two days a group of devoted volunteers from both schools sorted tons of clothes etc. onto 21 pallets which had been provided by sponsors. These went directly to Antibes Yacht Chandler which organised the delivery of the donations to Paris and, subsequently, by lorry to Iraq. On Friday 13th November a sale of hot chocolate and cakes was organised at Mougins School which raised 500€ for Refugee Aid. Those clothes which are not appropriate for Iraq have been donated to the Chain of Hope. This is an Association which organises medical aid in France for children from Africa. These children are cared for by host families. Once again, a stunning response from families at Mougins School to the needs of those less fortunate.
This year’s Nice to Cannes Marathon was run in glorious sunshine, perfect conditions for producing best times. Mougins School entered four teams: Staff Ladies, Staff Men, Student Girls and a Mixed Team. The Staff Ladies Team once again proved to be extremely strong, finishing in 3hr 12.36min. This was the third fastest ladies team and 23rd team overall. The Staff Men had a great race and achieved a finishing time of 3hr 25.56min. The Student Girls were as reliable as ever, running fantastically with smiles on their faces all the way. They managed a time of 4hr 11.53min and came 30th out of 61 girls teams and 333 out of 489 overall. Our mixed team took a bit of a battering beforehand with illness and injury but, with two last minute replacements we managed to get a team over the line in an incredibly fast time of 3hr 44.30min, an excellent result.
