Dear Parents
We have introduced an exciting and dynamic new subject entitled Global Perspectives into our lower Secondary school curriculum. It is supported by Cambridge University and it is a course like no other. Our students will explore what they are interested in and we will teach them the skills needed to make judgements and appraisals on facts and information coming from our media. Through this course they will learn the skills of critical thinking, creative investigation and how to become a powerful communicator.
The specific key skills are: Research, Evaluation, Collaboration, Analysis, Reflection and Communication and they explore topics of national and International significance to help develop and foster these skills.
The course is taught by Mr Robert Cooke, Mrs Rachel Warren and Mrs Sarah Michael from Year 7 to 9 and they will follow the Cambridge syllabus for each year group and are supported by resources and videos from Cambridge Global perspectives teacher support hub.
Cambridge Global Perspectives is a unique, transformational programme that helps students at every stage of school education develop outstanding transferable skills, including critical thinking, research and collaboration.
This innovative and stimulating skills-based programme places academic study in a practical, real-world context. It gives students aged 5 to 19 years the opportunity to develop the skills that they need to be successful at school and university as well as in their future careers.
The programme taps into the way today’s students enjoy learning, including group work, seminars, projects and working with other students around the world. The emphasis is on developing students’ ability to think critically about a range of global issues where there is always more than one point of view.
This is an amazing opportunity for our students to develop Global perspectives that will give them healthy and positive perspectives on complex issues such as Immigration, Education, Employment and Diplomacy and National traditions. It will help foster respect and the idea of a Global community within our students for our World.
As a teacher I am looking forward to teaching and learning from this new Subject and watching our students learn about topical issues in a positive framework.
